Sobre o álbum

Delirium é o terceiro álbum de estúdio da cantora britânica Ellie Goulding, e é o seu primeiro álbum desde o 'Halcyon', que saiu em Outubro de 2012. O álbum foi composto nos últimos 3 anos e inclui letras sobre todas as experiências passadas por Ellie desde então, além da sua sonoridade mais pop que entretanto também foi evoluindo. Numa entrevista, Ellie revelou que no álbum ela sente uma certa liberdade de expressar os sentimentos e pensamentos que não aguenta mais guardar. Esta forma de agir pode ser confundida por loucura pelas outras pessoas, por isso o nome do álbum. Para o disco, Ellie trabalhou com compositores como Savan Kotecha e Tove Lo além de produtores como Greg Kurstin, Max Martin e Joel Little. O trabalho foi descrito por Ellie como 'intenso' e 'maior' do que os seus anteriores.

Sobre o lançamento

O álbum foi concluído em junho de 2015, porém após a troca de gravadora e atraso na preparação da divulgação do CD, além do sucesso da música Love Me Like You Do na trilha sonora do filme 50 Tons de Cinza, o lançamento foi adiado de meados de setembro ou outubro para janeiro de 2016. O álbum foi lançado no dia 30 de janeiro e inclui 12 faixas na versão standard, com 4 faixas adicionais na edição Deluxe. O álbum foi lançado em formato digital e será lançado no formato físico no dia 6 de fevereiro. Ellie lançou um single promocional do álbum antes do lançamento, Devotion, além dos dois singles oficiais On My Mind e Something In The Way You Move.

A introdução do álbum serve como um método de 'ligar' o álbum anterior, Halcyon, com o novo Delirium, representando o acalmamento de uma tempestade e o nascimento do sol. A faixa não tem letra, mas podemos ouvir a voz de Ellie cantando de forma crescente, que juntamente com o instrumental vão ficando cada vez mais altos e mais intensos até o final da intro. No final da intro, a faixa vai 'sobrecarregando' até estourar no final.

Na música, Ellie representa o desejo e a paixão da personagem do filme, Anastasia Steele. Demonstrando o seu amor e dedicação para o seu amante, e pedindo para que ele a ame e toque daquele jeito particular que apenas ele sabe. Apesar de estar incluída no álbum, a música tinha sido lançada como single da trilha sonora do filme no início de 2015.

'Devotion' foi o primeiro e único single promocional a ser lançado do Delirium antes do lançamento do álbum. A música começa com 10 segundos de guitarra acústica, mas entra com batidas house e UK garage depois, alternando entre estas duas facetas da faixa, uma mais eletrônica e complexa e outra mais acústica e 'nua'. Na letra, Ellie fala sobre o sentimento de amar alguém ao ponto de se dedicar completamente a essa pessoa - daí a "devoção".

A última faixa, que fecha a versão Standard do álbum, foi composta apenas por Ellie e Jim Eliot, que já tinham colaborado no álbum anterior da cantora, Halcyon (2012). A música começa calma, mas no refrão ela 'explode' e entra com instrumentalização forte. Na letra, Ellie fala sobre perder o controlo, e que quando é necessário, não há algum problema em agir com loucura (deriva do nome do álbum - Delirium). "Você precisa de perder a cabeça às vezes. Está tudo bem em não estar tudo bem.", disse Ellie.
